Wednesday, February 7th, Tampa Writers Alliance Meeting –
Speaker, Sharon Belcastro, Senior Agent for Belcastro Agency
Topic: Specific Tropes of Different Genres
Sharon will enlighten us at our February 7th general meeting on specific tropes of different genres. Come join us to learn more!
Cozy mystery, military thriller, western romance, whether you are writing a screenplay or a book, it is critical to know your genre. Each genre has its own guideposts and expectations that readers expect. Gaining a good understanding of the guidelines can make your plotting easier and faster. Not to mention that your success at securing an agent, publisher and readers depends on it. If it isn’t clear where your book would fit on the shelves of the bookstore, it is likely to end up unread. This workshop will walk you through the various genres of commercial fiction and explain the critical elements of various genres and subgenres. It will give you insight into what will likely get you rejected and offer you a recipe for a successful book that fits squarely into a category.
